{Blog #3} I want to read every Ali Smith book and here is why...

It's because she's amazingly talented and I love theme challenges.

I have always liked the idea of reading through an entire author's bibliography in chronological order, but had never dared to commit to the task. This year, apparently feeling the absence of university coursework, I decided it was time.

Why Ali Smith? She's one of my favorite authors, and the only of the group who writes about the now, which makes her work interesting to read in sequence. She's daring and fascinating and I would adore experiencing her style developing through the years. And, of course, rereading the works I've already loved in the wider context of her oeuvre.

The one problem: Accessibility to her early fiction and plays (two of which are unpublished, and the others are hard to come by). When I chose Ali Smith for this project, I thought I already owned her first book: Like. Then I realized that is her first novel. BUT, as I had the picture for this entry ready to go, I decided to plow through and fudge the rules a bit.

I am attempting to read all of Ali Smith's novels in publication order, throwing in the plays and short story collections as much as it's possible for me. Ideally, I will be able to find Free Love and Other Stories and start off on the right foot. If not, Like it is! Either way, I am excited.
